Here in Singapore, we celebrate Mothers’ Day on 2nd Sunday of every May to show appreciation to our mums for their endless love, support and sacrifices.

In this month, Pam goes travelling will be running a Mother’s Day campaign in which travel bloggers from around the world share on their travel experiences with their mums.

Kicking start is Agness Walewinder from Poland, one half of eTramping, a passionate photographer, adventure blogger and life enthusiast who travel the world for less than $25 a day. She is currently in Amsterdam furthering her studies, using it as a base to travel around Europe.

1) Where have you travelled to with your mum?

Last summer, me and my mom, took a trip across Germany, Portugal and Spain. During our 18-day escapade, we visited over 15 cities and towns, slept at 4 different airports and stayed at 3 hotels and 2 apartments. Our budget was $25 a day, of course.

2) How has your mum inspires you on your travels?

As my mom is a historian, we used to read travel books and watched travel TV channels a lot. She told me many stories from the past that opened my mind and wanted me to be one of the story tellers. Even these days she keeps motivating me to travel and develop myself and she is always eager to travel with me.

3) How different/ similar is your mum’s travelling style as compared to yours?

My mom is over 50 but she can totally handle the backpacking lifestyle. For example, our Euro trip was planned with very tight budget and believe me or not, we easily stuck to it. There were no restaurants or fancy cocktails, no taxis or airport pickups. Instead, we did a lot of food shopping, cooked at hostels and had our lunches and dinners in local parks or at the beaches. With proper amount of sleep, everything was possible!

4) What kind of activities you both love and agree on without compromising?

We are both active, so cycling, hiking and walking are our favourite activities when travelling. We enjoy strolling down the streets of a city we are not familiar with, chatting and taking pictures. We also like going to museums and churches to pray and meditate. When we get tired, we sit down in a cozy cafeteria and sip a skinny latte while digging into local delicacies.

5) What was the most memorable moment during one of those travels?

The most memorable moment during our travels was discovering Santuário de Fátima in Portugal. Me and my mom have a list of sacred sites and religious spots we both want to visit before we die. Since we are a Catholic family, visiting Portugal without stopping in Fatima, would not be an option. Therefore, after exploring beautiful Lisbon, we headed to Fatima for the weekend. It is a very small town located in the North of Lisbon with a small population of people famous for its religious tourism and pilgrimages. This charming and picturesque town is visited by hundreds of tourists during in May, but smaller pilgrimages are held on the 12th and 13th of every month. Visiting the sanctuary, praying and medicating was the most fruitful and memorable experience we had so far.

6) Did you learn something new about your mum when you travel with her and what was it?

Yes, I have learnt a lot about my mom during our last trip in Europe. Right after we came back home, I posted a blog post called Top 10 tips for travelling with your mom as she inspired me to share our amazing memories and stories from the road. My mom turned out to be even more adventurous than I thought. She never complained about being tired. She was blissfully happy to visit such amazing countries and beautiful cities. She was talking pictures like crazy, posed for photos like a professional backpacker and once she said: “Aga, let’s take a selfie”, I knew she was my travel girl!

7) Where is the next destination you intend to travel with your mum and why?

This summer we are planning to travel in Holland a lot since I have been living in Amsterdam for over 8 months now. Another travel destination would be Medjugorje, a town located in the Herzegovina region of Bosnia and Herzegovina where we want to visit Statue of Virgin Mary at Podbrdo, Saint James church and famous Blue cross at Podbrdo hill. I simply can’t wait for our future adventures!

Thank you Agness for sharing with us on travelling with your mum! Stay tune to the next post for interesting stories by other bloggers!
