I had been looking forward to it ever sinceLauren announced on her book publication. With much anticipation, it was finally launched on 13th August and now available on Amazon.
What is this book about?
A twenty-something girl infect with travel bug that she sold her stuff, quit her job and leave family and friends behind to take on the world. That is just a typical beginning of every travel memoir isn’t it? Now that is something different about this girl, before she left her safety net in England to explore the world, she battled with anxiety disorders where she suffers from a period of time not being able to get out of the house, convince that she was about to die and not being able to eat anything at all. Without seeking any medical help, she slowly took charge of her life, a little at a time until she was well enough to begin her world travel!
This is not something a completely normal people like you and I are able to comprehend but through this book, we can see how a girl conquer anxiety issues and how she continues to battle with it as she travel across Europe to Asia and eventually drunk-texted her soon-to-be boyfriend, flew all the way to Thailand and meet him. It is almost like a fairy tale!
Only if this fairy tale means it was the end of her unlucky travels. Her travel disasters started right at the morning of her big trip and it is almost like a permanent badge she wears on herself. Since then, she slept with her backpack on, ate cockroaches, sat right next to a dead woman in a boat, scammed and hit back, experience an almost-tsunami and plenty more.
After going through so much, this girl is still braving the world and it seems that the walking disaster title isn’t getting her down!
Why should you be reading the book?
Lauren draws you into her travels and disasters that you will wonder how much bad luck can one girl get? If you think that she probably hit her life quota of bad luck with travels, it did not stop right there.
Travelling is not all full of glitters and unicorns because Lauren shows you the reality of travel where sometimes everything that could go wrong, would go wrong. What matter most is that you do not let all these get you down and book the next available ticket back home to hide in your bed.
If you are down on luck, perhaps reading this book puts you into perspective that you life is not that bad all, if it is of much consolation.
Would I recommend this book?
Totally! How NOT to travel the world is a light-hearted and easy read, I love how Lauren gets dramatic about her life because I could resonate with as I am one dramatic person myself.
Have you read this book yet and let me know what you think of it!
